IPL 2018 Retained Players List by all Franchise

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 11 player retention is now finalized today. Ahead of the mega-auction later this month, on Thursday held its player retention ceremony in Mumbai. Most of the big names are retained by their respective franchises with few surprises.

According to the IPL Governing Council rule, a franchise can have to retain a maximum of five players via player retention (pre-player auction) and right to match card (RTM) (during the player auction).  Franchises have an option to either retained a maximum of 3 players or can buy 3 players by RTM card. If there is no retention before the player's auction then franchises can bring back up to 3 players by RTM. The franchise will send the list of retained players soon because the cut-off date for forwarding the retained list is January 4, 2018.

Retained players list :

Here the complete list of all the players retained by their respective franchise. A total of 18 players retained by eight franchises such as MI, CSK, KKR, RR, RCB, SRH, KXI, and DD. 

Virat Kohli is the most expensive player after being retained for Rs. 17 crores followed by MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who was retained for Rs. 15 crores.

The Chennai Super Kings are retained three of their major players - skipper MS Dhoni, IPL superstar Suresh Raina and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.


Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB retentions

Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained India captain Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers is RCB's second retention while they have kept uncapped Sarfaraz Khan for Rs 3 crore while putting Chris Gayle back in the auction pool.


Sunrisers Hyderabad


SRH retentions

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained skipper David Warner along with previous year purple cap holder, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.


Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR retentions

Kolkata Knight Riders retained two West Indians Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Gautam Gambhir was excluded from the list and back to auction pool.

Kings XI Punjab

KXIP  retention

Axar Patel was the only player retained by Kings XI Punjab.

Mumbai Indians

MI retentions


Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah are retained by Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Daredevils

DD retentions


Rishabh Pant, Chris Morris, and Shreyas Iyer are retained by Delhi Daredevils. 

Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua said "Ricky Ponting has been appointed as head coach. We will have a new coach and a new team with the idea of having continuity,". 

Rajasthan Royals

RR retentions
Rajasthan Royals retained the only player and previous year Rising Pune captain Steve Smith.

Now all eyes to upcoming mega-auction which is set to take place on January 27 and 28 in Bengaluru.
